Greg Hawkins is a seasoned veteran of the saxophone who has ministered musically in much of the United States and Western Europe. He has appeared on many local and national television broadcasts and he was a past winner of the Starsong Records/700 Club National New Artist Search. Greg's appeal is to a very broad demographic - from youth groups to adults. His mix of Jazz, R&B and Praise and Worship music has blessed thousands.
Greg started playing the tenor saxophone in elementary school and after high school he attended Jacksonville State University on a music scholarship. While at JSU he studied saxophone with the great saxophone teacher, Dr. Ronald Attinger. In 1978 he received a degree in music education.
Today, Greg ministers musically on the tenor, alto and soprano saxophones. He understands the power of music and believes that music is a gift from God and should be used to further His kingdom. Greg knows that the saxophone is only a tool for reaching the lost at any cost. He understands that music is worship, not just entertainment. Greg also knows that salvation transcends denominational, economic, racial, nationalistic, and age barriers.
Greg lives in Pell City, Alabama with his wife of 24 years, Jan. They have two children, Maggie and Mollie and 4 (!) dogs.
Greg's newly released, second solo cd, "Heaven" contains a mix of blistering, jazz-flavored r&b and smooth praise and worship. He has enlisted the help of some of the finest musicians in the Southeast. Keyboardist, Kelvin Wooten, bassist, Sean Michael Ray, drummer, Steve Sample and vocalist, Kevin Derryberry come together to make "Heaven" a very special project.
